Additional information
Shell solid, up to 12 cm high, unequivalent, with the right valve domed and the left flat, with equal-sized auricles on both sides of the umbo. Surface of the right valve with flattened ribs, longitudinally striated and with fine transverse striations in the intercostal spaces. Colouring of the right valve very variable, ranging from light yellow to strong pink. Left valve with thinner ribs and deep transversely striated grooves, the outside being reddish brown and the inside white aporcelanate.
