Additional information
Laterally compressed body, lacking a carapace. The first and sometimes the second thorax segment are attached to the head. The abdomen is not clearly differentiated from the thorax. The first and second antennae are developed and the first pair of thoracic appendages are modified into maxillipeds. 7 pairs of pereiopods. The eyes are compound. The three posterior pleopods are directed backwards and are used for jumping or swimming. Size between 1mm and 25 cm in length.
