All oceans (some species in large rivers)

Conservation status

Many globally threatened species. In Spain 20 species are included in the List of Species under Special Protection Regime, several of them or some of their populations considered vulnerable and the harbour porpoise in danger of extinction (Royal Decree 139/2011).

Additional information

Homodont dentition. Nostrils displaced to the top of the head (opening outwards in a single blowhole). Forelegs fin-shaped, without hind legs and with a strong, muscular tail.
