Distribution
The genus is present on all continents, although the American and Eurasian species are different. Four species of redshanks are regularly observed in Spain.
Conservation status
The common redshank is included in the red book of Andalusian vertebrates with the category of insufficient data to evaluate its conservation status (DD), the rest of the species are not catalogued as threatened.
Additional information
Medium-sized waders, long legs and relative bill length intermediate between godwits and plovers. Body colouration is usually greyish or brownish although several species have legs coloured red or yellow and in flight have distinctive white spot patterns.
