Additional information

Body up to 40 cm long. Large head with ridges and spines and without dermal appendages on the lower jaw. Long supra-ocular tentacles. Reddish-brown with dark spots. Venomous spines on the first rays of the dorsal fin and on the opercula. It differs from Scorpaena notata in having very small supra-ocular tentacles and from Scorpaena scrofa in the dermal appendages of the lower jaw.
