Additional information

Characteristic head resembling that of a horse, with a small mouth at the end of a long, tubular muzzle and a small crown. Prehensile tail. They swim in an upright position, propelling themselves with the dorsal fin. Males incubate the clutch. It differs from H. hippocampus in that this species has a short snout and a large crown.
