Habitat
Flying terrestrials, very diverse habitats (resting in caves, tree hollows, etc.).
Feeding
Diverse, Iberian species are all carnivorous (insectivorous).
Distribution
All continents, except Antarctica, and most islands
Conservation status
Many globally threatened species. In Spain, all species are included in the List of Species under Special Protection Regime, 12 are considered vulnerable and 1, the bigeye bat, is in danger of extinction (Royal Decree 139/2011).
Additional information
Unmistakable appearance with forelimbs transformed into wings. In relation to this, the toes of the forelegs (except for the thumb) are very elongated and have a highly developed patagium.
